Reading the Bible is not an obligation, it's a privilege. God invites us to know the depths of his heart for this world, and yet we complain that the life giving words he has for us are boring.
It is a meeting place, where we can learn what makes him move with compassion, what draws him to vengeance, the story of our creation and our end. We expect to hear him speak without taking the time to read his word.
I’ve been reading the Bible for the past 2 years, every morning before my husband and kids wake up. I’ve been digging in and asking God to show me what he needs me to see.
Does that make me better than those that don’t do this? Absolutely not.
But I sure wish I didn’t waste so much time complaining that the Bible was boring and I didn’t get anything out of it.
So, if you’re anything like I was — this is me, strongly suggesting you stop making excuses and looking for what you GET out of reading it and simply start building the routine of showing up and asking God to reveal himself to you as HE SEES FIT.
God is not a genie. The Bible is not a magic book.
It is an invitation into the heart of the God that created you on purpose for a purpose.
No more excuses.
Dig in.
"Listen to instruction and be wise; don't ignore it.
Anyone who listen to me is happy, watching at my doors every day,
waiting by the post of my doorway.
For the one who finds me finds life and obtains factor from the LORD,
but the one who misses me harms himself;
all who hate me love death."
Proverbs 8:33-36 (CSB)
